Japan: The unedited dump. Part 1

for something more coherent, check over at http://drinks-w-rob.blogspot.com in a little while. It will be more drinks oriented but that's the deal. Time for some memories made in the lovely land of #Japan. Hashtags aren't really necessary but it's a cool place out here. Nervousness is a strange emotion, I'm sure we're all familiar with the so-called 'butterflies in your stomach' feeling but it's worth touching base, before the trip I was unsure of what I was going to do. Everyone has their own opinion of how you should spend your time in a foreign country. Or what that country is like and how their experiences would be mirrored in your own. Japan is practically the rule for this as so many people dream of going there or have gone so many times they could call it a second home. Maybe not entirely the truth but that's certainly how it seems. What do you expect of japan? A world of rolling hills, with little old ladies washing the street. Super pol...

Shaking my head.

I'm sorry, I just shook my head at some sexism today. I asked a customer if he had a rewards card and without skipping a beat he said: "No, only women have those." I was stunned into autopilot, and now it's just weighing on me for no good reason other than I just let it be. I wrote up a brain dump after too. About the damage that's done. Generations of "He does, she doesn't" and vice versa "She does, He doesn't" has resulted in this warped view of the world. This sexist view that Men and Women are so different from each other. The reality is that we're all rather unique. and the same thing that has happened to make this absurd sexist gap has also happened again to make a class based society where people are discredited what they do. That only the poor and students work retail, that all trades people are their own class (bogan?) It's the same as the attitude of lords and ladies from the medieval period. Now there's a compound...

Bloated

Okay, so I have a bone to pick. I'm just going to drop it here in the dumping grounds that is O-Lit instead. It seems that everywhere I look, if it's related to proper desktop or windows software there is a HUGE amount of bloating. Things that should fit in ~10MB are 100, and 100 ends up in the 1000. Or in the case of instagram. An app with less features, is approx 6 times the size. Going from a 36ish MB download on Android to over 220MB on windows 10. The user experience was also sub-par. I understand this from the perspective of "Phones have limited space, desktops have that exponential amount more". But I'd argue that it's not only a lazy assumption that the next end user actually has that space to spare but it's also a major inconvenience to someone like me who is using that space to create content. Putting in that extra mile to optimise that content so that you can put it on your phone and enjoy it without spending heaps on your data bill, or deletin...

Draft, Draught, and Drought

So this one came up whilst I was writing something for the other blog over at Drinks with Rob What is a draft? well, if you asked me I'd tell you it is a copy of writing that hasn't been edited yet, a writeup before you go through and edit it. it's likely got errors or concepts that need to be edited or re-written before you send it out into this lovely big wide world. The world wide web. And what about a Draught (spoken the same)? Well, a type of beer. like Guinness, right. well. More than that. According to quickly available sources. Draft has way to many meanings. Not only that but it's used interchangeably with Draught. My beer example is wrong. It's actually about the serving system for the beer rather than the beer itself. Probably why very few beers are called draught. My example of Guinness is commonly served on tap in Ireland to the best of my knowledge. Locally, something similar happens with Carlton Draught (that's the actual name of the beer t...

brain dump: League of Legends ARAM-ARURF

ARURF has screwed my MMR gone from good games to playing against smurf/reroll accounts with small champion pools to playing with bots and newbies. feels bad man. alright. Clarify what the dealio is: when ARURF opened I started a losing streak on ARAM, no big deal. except it kept happening. Near perfect team comps and players who looked like they were playing their mains. This continues until I hit bot territory. where decision trees are enough to beat most conventional players. The problem is that there were bots on both teams. so win for loss, not doing well. and what's better than a bot? new players whose decisions may fluke them up a rank or two. Or put them in the pits. Why do I blame ARURF? Because the entire time that queue is up, it takes away the casual but skilled short game players from ARAM. leaving the sparse selection of players like myself that are less thrilled by ARURFs meta but still want a reasonably short game. and then bots and freaks who are in it for win-los...

The math

Taken from Rat Rod Addiction on Facebook A classic algebra and logic puzzle. I've seen these done with all sorts of things. Here's the algebraic breakdown: p+p+p=30, 3p=30, p=10 p+t+t=20, Where p=10: 10+2t=20, 2t=10, t=5 t+2s+2s=9 Where t=5: 5+4s=9, 4s=4, s=1 And that's where we hit the logic puzzle part. Why 2s? well, look at the last line of graphics in the middle and compare that to line 3. There is a double icon. Logically we can assume this means it's double. It requires you to work backwards through the problem. Note: This is a fair assumption from our uninvolved standpoint. The last line: t+s*p = ? remembering the order of operations gives us: 1*10 and then + 5 which is 15. 15 is the correct answer where our assumption is correct. without the assumption the equation cannot be simplified, only rewritten as 10*x+5. The single shock absorber being undefined and thus represented by 'x' Solved Left to right we get 60. But that'd require the equation ...

No Draft: The apt complex

Seen on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/comments/at5nh8/any_other_people_working_the_night_shift/ Could totally make this better. Things like insulated and noise proofed walls for the varying parts of the different night shifts. Delivery service in the lobby which operates 24/7. Get your parcels when you wake up. speaking of 24/7 places. The cafe is 24/7 everything. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, beer/wine/spirits. small, medium, and large seating settings in sound proofed capsules. Enjoy your after-shift in peace and quiet whilst your neighbor celebrates. They won't make those work related aches worse, no matter what they do. weekday rooms: on demand, a place to just check in and drop. Sleep-wake-work-repeat. Take time off on the weekends to actually go home. just flick a switch and someone from house services will sweep through and cleanup. (extra tag/switch if you're a nurse/doctor/specialist who needs some not so lovely stuff cleaned). No kids. We know it...

A place for my head.

So, O-lit has been around for a long time. Not used for anything, old posts that aren't worth re-reading sitting there. I've reverted them all to drafts for now. For now I'm just gonna have it sit in the back burner and jot some public thoughts down here. These are public thoughts that may have come from meditations, drinking sessions, chats with friends, and memes posted on various media. posting schedule is whenever.
